Welcome to the Med-Sci blog home page, where you'll find tons of useful resources to help throughout your time at university. In particular this section aims to give you a better idea of how it may all might pan out. At the moment this is particularly aimed towards those studying at the university of Exeter. However getting an insight into our a year in industry might help you make the calculated risk to take on your own!
This section is currently geared towards giving you a better idea of what it is like to study the MedSci BSc (Hons) degree. So each year can be better prepared for what is to come. The course is geared towards those with an interest in studying the manner in which various pathologies occur and the influence the biochemical, genetic or various other disruptions could have on the human body and our overall health. Following on from this, the course also focuses on the principles behind the commonly used diagnostic tools and treatment procedures available that help to promote rapid, affordable treatment of unwell patients.
Lastly we look into the research available on the various pathologies, with particular interest in the mechanisms of disease formation uncovered (to help decipher new drug targets) and the potential advancements in technology within that area. All of which may improve patient quality of life significantly! We'll be soon adding an anatomy section, and I know what you're thinking, as a biomedical/clinical/medical scientist MAINLY working on a cellular level...Do I actually need to know this stuff? Well if you needed to extract blood stem cells via a mandibular bleed it would be nice to know where that actually was! We'll keep you posted for the first segment.
In this section we hope to broaden your understanding of the location, histology and anatomy of various bones & organs of the body (human specific).
