EXON is a student run site for those with an interest in the basic scientific principles behind disease formation, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The site offers everything from fun facts, new scientific stories and ways in which to help you better explore what actually intrigues you about science and what areas interest you the most.
The site also hopes to equip you with skills to enable you to critically read scientific journals and hopefully one day write in them. The ability to write and analyse well within science is crucial not only to how well you do, but how well your findings can be applied within healthcare. Therefore writing opportunities are available through exon to help you to begin to hone these skills!
Click the "become a blogger" button in the side bar to apply. We also want to encourage you to develop skills to be coherent when speaking about scientific principles too! So we also have a platform that enables you to develop video reports as well as written ones. However, a silver tongue will not be enough for you to progress within the scientific community, therefore the site also hosts a platform where students can share information about key research techniques such as western blotting and PCR. Overall EXON is here to help students interested in science to develop the skills necessary to formulate their scientific ideas and translate them from their minds, to the lab, to journals and eventually, to healthcare.
Whether you're looking to do a PhD, become an academic researcher, work in the healthcare field or your just browsing. You can use EXON as a space to learn and share more about science. To find out what's new on EXON scroll down to the bulletin board below!

Getting involved gives you a shot at practising your journalistic skills, be it in writing or in front of a camera. Some roles may even help you develop leadership and team management skills.
You don't have to be a consistent contributor, just interested/inspired. Remember you get out what you put in! So if you'd like to give it a go, and become an EXON blogger (casually or regularly) then contact us by click the "become a blogger" button in the sidebar! Whether you've been at it for years, or you're a complete novice, the idea of broadening your scientific knowledge can at times seem like learning a new language! A language that even Google can barely explain! A language that you know you'll have to be fluent in by the end of the day/week for that good old essay/dissertation/presentation. Which can be quite tough!
Trying to get the gist of scientific papers, articles and clinical cases that are rich with complex terminology can easily throw you. All of which may leave you feeling as though you have endless torrents of reading to do! (particularly if you get easily distracted). Here at EXON we've devise a strategy to help keep you on track and generally focus your efforts to understand these complex texts. So The next time you are faced with one, try to keep in mind you are trying to Extract, Translate, Express and Analyse!! (ETEA). hope this helps! good luck! You can find more tips in the student hub. |
There will be many clincsoc/exon events to come, don't you worry.
